Electric lorries will contribute to fossil-free forestry transport

Tuesday, December 3, 2019

The forestry industry's lorry transports will be fossil-free. Therefore, eight organisations are starting a joint research project under the leadership of Stockholm Environment Institute, with research funding via Triple F. The focus of the project is the timber Pod, an automated and electrified lorry developed by Einride, an award-winning Swedish start-up that works for a sustainable transition of lorry transports.

The research project Accelerated transition to fossil-free transport in the forestry sector will accelerate innovations in order to achieve the climate goal of zero emissions from transport by 2045. The project will propose new systems and combinations of technologies that should  be tested in concrete demonstration projects.

The project is headed by the Stockholm Environment Institute. Active participants also include Einride and Skogforsk. Skogsindustrierna are co-financiers of the project together with SCA, BillerudKorsnäsSödra and Sveaskog. The total budget is about 2 million kronor. Research funds have been granted from the research programme  Triple F, Fossil Free Freight, which is financed by the Swedish Transport agency
